Takeshi Fuji (藤猛, born Paul Takeshi Fuji on July 6, 1940) is a former professional boxer from Hawaii. He is a former world super lightweight (light welterweight) champion. Fuji was born a third generation Japanese-American.[1] He was raised in the United States, but traveled to Japan, where he joined the boxing gym run by former professional wrestler Rikidōzan. Though he fought in Japan for most of his career, he could not speak Japanese. His trainer, Eddie Townsend, was also a Japanese-American. He made his professional debut in April, 1964 with a 2nd round KO. In June, 1965, Fuji challenged the Japanese super lightweight title, and won by KO only 45 seconds into the first round. This was his 11th professional fight, and he defended the title once before returning it. Fuji won the OPBF super lightweight title in 1966, and in fight we see here, he challenged world super lightweight champion Sandro Lopopolo in April, 1967. Fuji won by KO in the second round to become the new world champion. In a showdown for the Undisputed Light Welterweight Championship, undefeated 24 year old “Super” Zab Judah takes on Kostya Tszyu aka the "Thunder from Down Under". The following titles were on the line; 1)IBF Junior Welterweight Title (Judah’s 6th defense) 2)WBA Super Lightweight Title (Tszyu’s 2nd defense) 3)WBC Super Lightweight Title (Tszyu’s 5th defense) Prefight records; Tszyu 27(2)-1, Judah 27(21)-0. Entering the fight, the 3-1 betting favorite Zab had notable wins over Reggie Green, Terron Millett, Junior Witter & Darryl Tyson while the underdog Kostya had triumphs over top oppositions such as Sammy Fuentes, Jake Rodriguez, Roger Mayweather, Calvin Grove, Diosbelys Hurtado, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Sharmba Mitchell, Oktay Urkal & Rafael Ruelas as well as over past prime versions of Juan Laporte, Livingstone Bramble & Julio Cesar Chavez. In round 1, both fighters began carefully; Tszyu moving forward trying to cut off the ring and find the range for his right cross while Judah circled around to set up his counter punching and got the upper hand as he connected with a number of powerful lefts but he was rather reckless with wild lunging shots at times. With about 10 seconds to end the round, Kostya managed to find his distance and landed a right-left combo on Zab. In round 2, Tszyu shifted the momentum in his favor as he established his jab and connected with a few rights upstairs while Judah continued to move around to offset the rhythm of his opponent and look for openings. With about 10 seconds left to the bell, Kostya connected with a right cross to the chin shortly after referee Jay Nady separated both men from a clinch which he immediately follow up with another thunderous right cross that knocked the Brooklynite down for the first time in his career. In one of the most bizarre incidents of the sport, Zab went back down as soon he got up; he jumped up immediately before a count was even administered and appeared to telling Nady he was all right, but his legs instantly turned spaghetti as he stumble across the ring to hit the canvas once again which prompted Nady to call a halt to the bout. Judah was enraged by the stoppage which he considered unfair and had to be held back by members of his own corner as he attempted to punch and later threw a stool at Nady. Super Zab was consequently slapped with a USD75,000 fine as well as a 6 month suspension by the NYSAC for his post fight behavior. As for Kostya Tszyu, he garnered the IBF, WBA & WBC 140 pound titles with this victory to become the first Undisputed Light Welterweight Champion in 34 years. Note: The last Undisputed Light Welterweight Champion was crowned on April 30th 1967 when Takeshi Fuji scored a stunning KO2 over Sandro Lopopolo to win the WBA & WBC Light Welterweight Titles in Tokyo, Japan. It is certainly interesting to note that both Tszyu and Fuji became Undisputed Light Welterweight Champions via 2nd round stoppages 3.4 decades apart! Hope you guys enjoy this highlight of a fight with an unforgettable finish. Be sure to keep punching and SUBSCRIBE for more boxing goodness.

#kostyatszyu #tszyuvsphillips #tszyuvsphillipshighlights SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel 👉 🤍 NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED May 31st, 1997. Undefeated 27 year old Kostya Tszyu aka the “Thunder from Down Under” takes on 32 year old “Cool” Vince Phillips in the 6th defense of his IBF World Super Lightweight Championship. At this juncture, the 3.5-1 betting favorite Tszyu was considered to be more or less in his prime while Vince was seen as being in the downside of his career. Prefight records; Tszyu 18(14)-0, Phillips 35(24)-3. In January 1995, Kostya garnered the IBF World Super Lightweight Title via TKO6 over Jake Rodriguez and made 5 successful defenses between June 1995 to January 1997 notably over the likes of Jan Piet Bergman, Hugo Pineda & Roger Mayweather. For his 6th defense, he was up against Vince who had meaningful wins over the likes of Anthony Jones & Harold Brazier. As a whole, it was an exciting fight with many power shots connected by both men but Phillips’ right hand was apparently sharper against Tszyu’s for the most part. Additionally, the challenger also worked the body effectively with his right hooks going into the midpoint which ultimately resulted in huge dividends. In round 6, Kostya was shook with rights upstairs and downstairs then decked in round 7 with a humongous right hand with about 23 seconds left to the bell. After round 9, both were cut on the brows due to the many exchanges dispensed through 27 minutes of action. The accumulation of punishment finally took it’s toll on Tszyu in round 10 when his legs was buckled from under him courtesy of a pulverizing right by Phillips who wasted no time and went for the kill with a barrage of punishment that left the gutsy Australian warrior flailing on the ropes. Referee Benjy Estevez stepped in to halt the merciless assault and a new IBF World Super Lightweight Champion was crowned via a stunning upset. Between August 1997 and March 1998, Vince Phillips made 3 successful defenses over Micky Ward, Freddie Pendleton & Alfonso Sanchez before losing the title to Terron Millett via TKO5 in February 1999. As for Kostya Tszyu, he rebounded strongly after his first career setback and went 4(4)-0 then proceeded to become the WBC Light Welterweight Champion with a TKO10 triumph over Miguel Angel Gonzalez in August 1999. In November 2001, he became the first ever Undisputed World Light Welterweight Champion in over 30 years by stopping “Super” Zab Judah via TKO2 where he held the IBF, WBA & WBC Light Welterweight Championships after scoring the most significant victory of his career. Note: The last Undisputed World Light Welterweight Champion was the power punching Takeshi Fuji who defeated Sandro Lopopolo via KO2 in April 1967 to bag the WBA & WBC World Light Welterweight Titles in devastating fashion. Enjoy this highlight of this explosive bout and knockout, and remember to SUBSCRIBE for more boxing goodness! Stay safe, take care and never ever stop punching.

#kostyatszyu #kostyatszyuhighlights #kostyatszyuknockouts SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel 👇 🤍 NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED November 28th, 1998. Nearly 21 years ago, “The Thunder from Down Under” Kostya Tszyu fought Diosbelys Hurtado aka “Black Money” for the vacant Interim WBC Light Welterweight Title with the winner set to challenge Miguel Angel Gonzalez for the vacant WBC Light Welterweight Championship. Prefight records; Tszyu 21(17)-1, Hurtado 28(19)-1. Entering the fight, Tszyu had commendable victories over Jake Rodriguez, Hector Lopez, Hugo Pineda & Rafael Ruelas. He also beat Calvin Grove, Roger Mayweather, Juan Laporte, Sammy Fuentes & Livingstone Bramble although they were past their primes when Kostya fought them. On the other hand, Hurtado who had 4” height and 4.5” reach advantages had no notable wins at this point. However, his most significant fight was against Pernell Whitaker for the WBC World Welterweight Title back in January 1997 where he was stopped in the 11th round while ahead in all 3 scorecards. In one of the best albeit underrated first rounds of boxing, both fighters scored a combined total of 3 knockdowns within 95 seconds of action; Hurtado was the first to go down when Tszyu belted him with several power shots on the ropes but he returned the favor with a counter right hand with his back on the ropes shortly after beating the count as Tszyu was too eager to go for the kill. At the mid point mark, Hurtado floored Tszyu for the second time with another counter right hand while leaning on the ropes as Tszyu once again overcommited himself. Although Hurtado had 2 knockdowns, Tszyu connected with the harder and cleaner shots through the rest of the round on top of his 1 knockdown. Between rounds 2 and 4, both engaged more cautiously but continued to connect with power shots at near even terms. However, Tszyu’s effective body punching eventually paid dividends in the 5th as Hurtado was apparently slowing down as Kostya seized the opportunity by doubling down on his body work to even up the knockdown count. He then wasted no time going for the kill after Hurtado was on his feet; connecting with a jolting right hand to the head followed by a final left hook to the body that sent the courageous Cuban down for the 3rd time. Referee James Jen Kin waved off the bout without a count. After the win, Tszyu went on to bag the WBC Light Welterweight Championship via TKO11 over Miguel Angel Gonzalez in his next bout. On November 3rd 2001, he became the first Undisputed Light Welterweight Champion in 34 years by stopping Zab Judah with a flush right hand with merely a second left in the 2nd round in one of the most memorable endings to a fight in the history of the sport. Before Tszyu, Takeshi Fuji was the last fighter to have unified 2 major 140 pound world titles when he won the WBA & WBC World Light Welterweight Titles via KO2 over Sandro Lopopolo in April 1967. Enjoy this simple highlight of an exciting bout, and remember to SUBSCRIBE! Keep punching.
