Hello friends, in this video series i'll be making a small benchtop CNC router for hobby works. You will find all the measurements and material names at the end of the part 2.
In this video I'm going to show how I built a basic CNC mill. Most of the hardware was sourced from spare / leftover parts I had laying around from other projects and ended up costing me under $100. It has a working area of approximately 250mm x 250mm x 70mm and is capable of milling aluminum (though somewhat rough). The axes are moved with small NEMA17 stepper motors running at 24V, driven by A4988 drivers. The brain of the machine is an Arduino Uno running GRBL firmware, and G-code is sent to it via. USB from a laptop running Universal Gcode Sender - so everything is open source. I have a little bit of experience operating a CNC mill, but this is the first one i've built / owned. The biggest learning experience from this build was that everything needs to be tightened up and made as rigid as possible to get good results. Between leadscrew backlash and rails flexing, the spindle could easily be moved +/- 1mm or more, which causes tons of vibration, chattering, rough cutting, and loss of precision. In a future video I'll be upgrading the spindle and beefing up the structure to use 16mm rails instead of 8mm for better rigidity. I don't recommend trying to build this design yourself, because I created the printed brackets based on parts i had on hand, not what was "optimal". Is it possible to get into CNC woodworking without spending over $5,000? The answer is absolutely YES! Below are a couple of links to some options that I've used. How to Build a Custom 3D Printed CNC - DIY Complete Build Outline: This video highlights how I built a custom 3D printed CNC machine for about $600. This router is computer numerically controlled via an Arduino Uno running GRBL and utilizes four Nema 23's, four TB6600's, a 500W spindle, and two power supplies. Making a big 'industrial performance' CNC router, that will hopefully mill metals. The next CNC video pushing the limits of this machine: 🤍 This CNC machine needs to earn its place in the workshop, so the plan is to make something that can cut 8 x 4 ft sheets and flatten big chainsaw milled slabs, as well as machine aluminum and steel parts. It has ceramic bearings and thus far seems very very nice. We chose a 4 pole one, which has somewhat more torque at lower rpm than the 2 pole, but requires an 800Hz VFD. DIY CNC Milling machine build. My objective for this project was to design and build a CNC milling machine without the need for any machining of the parts. Ordinarily, building a mill requires a much bigger mill to get the axis surfaces flat and parallel. By using aluminium tool plate (which is in theory pre-machined flat) and bolting the critical components rather than welding, it should be possible to avoid any machine work. After all, I'm building a mill because I don't have one! Linear rails and ball screws are the cheap Chinese 20mm style that you can find on eBay etc.

$2/5pcs 2Layer & $5/5pcs 4Layer PCBs: 🤍 Hello friends in this video I have made a mini CNC engraving/milling machine. this machine based on arduino and GRBL firmware. 12mm plywood is used to make the frame of this machine and nema17 stepper motor is used for all three axis. 8mm smooth rod & T8 lead screw is used for all axis 500W spindle is used which is quite enough for this job. I have tested it on wood, acrylic, and PCB it works well not tested on alu. but shallow cuts with high quality of endmill done the job I think. Most hobby CNC machines are made from aluminum or even wood. Sturdy alternatives such as casted epoxy granite machines are expensive and require a reinforcement skeleton. Here I show an alternative, using concrete with fibreglass snips (fibre concrete) I built a sturdy machine that does not need an additional steel skeleton. It combines the advantages of casted machines (precise inlayed connections, resistance to vibrations) with a much lower price and ease of construction. Hope this video inspires your own CNC design!
