A deadly challenge between two Ultraman.
Hey everyone, welcome to Mythology Explained. In today’s video we’re going to take a dip in some controversial waters by exploring whether Gaia was, in fact, the most evil god in Greek mythology. This is definitely an unorthodox question - I mean, has the word evil and the name Gaia even been used in the same sentence before - but if you detach yourself from how she is usually portrayed and what she usually represents and, instead, consider her role in the sequence of great conflicts that constitute the Greek creation myth, then you begin to see her in an entirely different light, one that doesn’t paint such a flattering portrait of her. Now, Gaia is one of my favourite figures in Greek mythology, and no, I don’t really think she’s evil, but if you add up everything she does throughout the Greek creation myth, the result is certainly more open to interpretation than you would think. What this video aims to do is look at the causation behind each of the great conflicts embedded in the Greek creation myth with the goal of seeing how Gaia factors in as a catalyst, thereby developing the basis on which we’ll judge where Gaia falls on the spectrum of good and evil. Was she truly a force for good and the wellspring of life, or was she really a source of insidious evil bent on creating strife and sorrow? There were four instances of conflict that defined the Greek creation myth. Here they are in order: there was the rise of Cronus, there was the war against the titans, called the Titanomachy, there was the war against the giants, called the Gigantomachy, and finally, there was the battle against the monster Typhon. To fully understand the depth of Gaia’s involvement we have to start at the beginning of the Greek creation myth. We’re going to gloss over the moments that don’t feature her as a central figure. In the beginning there was the great void Chaos. From this void emerged the first of the Primordial deities. Gaia, the personification of the earth, was one of these, and she went on to independently produce three children, three second-generation primordial deities who would be aspects of the material world. These were Uranus, the sky, Ourea, the mountains, and Pontus, the sea. Gaia took Uranus as her consort, and together they had three groups of children: three Hecatonchires, hundred-handed monsters of unmatched size and strength, three Cyclopes, colossal humanoids with but a single large eye affixed to their faces, and finally, 12 titans. Eggmanland Day Dark Gaia and Perfect Dark Gaia SPOILERS! But not in the first two paragraphs. This is the final battle in Sonic Unleashed. I'm sure that, sooner or later, someone would've requested this. The descriptors of "Eggmanland" and "Day" are really only placeholders. It's not really in Eggmanland; the battle takes place at the center of the earth. The game just classifies it as such because Eggmanland counts as the final portion of the game. It's not technically daytime either, as Sonic is thousands of miles beneath the surface. The battle in the Wii version consists of three parts: A boxing match where you play as Chip, three running sequences for Sonic to get to Dark Gaia's eyes, and a battle as Super Sonic against Perfect Dark Gaia. In order to get the S-Rank, you must have a combined time of less than 7 minutes 30 seconds between these three. I'll be removing the cutscenes for time reasons. I suppose I can explain the story here, but if you want to see the cutscenes, you should watch someone else's videos. Chip doesn't quite look like himself in the first phase of the fight...and that's because, as Light Gaia, he can summon over the Temples of Gaia from each country Sonic has visited and assemble them into a super robot! I don't know how Punch-Out!! for the Wii plays, but people have always compared this to the NES game: Dodge Dark Gaia's attacks by swaying to the same side of the screen as Dark Gaia's arm if he's about to attack. Then, you can punch Dark Gaia, as hell only be vulnerable then. It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Chip and Dark Gaia will then try to grapple each other, which is Sonic's chance to make like the Three Stooges and poke some eyes. Sonic needs to make it in one piece to the end of each section and correctly do the Quick Time Event to reach Dark Gaia's eyes. Each section is longer and tougher than the last. This one is pretty straightforward. Dark Gaia will then have enough and transform into Perfect Dark Gaia in a sequence that would make H.P. Lovecraft smile. The Chaos Emeralds respond by bringing themselves to Sonic to turn him into Super Sonic. Sonic loves the Three Stooges routine and now has seven eyes to poke! Super Sonic starts out with 12 Rings and needs to grab more from around the 2-D plane that he can move in. He oses Rings with time, but at a pretty slow rate. Instead, Super Sonic can spend 10 Rings to charge at Perfect Dark Gaia. If he can avoid everything on his way there, he'll poke out an eye. But Perfect Dark Gaia isn't one to just let himself get clobbered. As Super Sonic is going around collecting Rings, Perfect Dark Gaia will swing at Super Sonic, and he loses 10 Rings for each hit that connects. The slashes themselves are very fast, but something that makes life a lot easier is that a small white line (or set of white lines, if he swings with all six arms at once) will appear on the screen as a trajectory before he swings, giving you enough time to get out of the way. I didn't notice those lines until I played this, and it made the battle that much easier. Requested by JWP1640

Ultraman Gaia Episode 18: As seen in the previous episode, Agul brushes Gaia aside and opens up Zonnel's shell, exposing the light within to shoot out at Diglobe. Gaia, (knowing the risks from his computing calculations), immediately flies up and summons a huge energy shield to fling over the city as the resulting shockwave flashes over. Gaia is knocked from the sky, however, and Agul taunts him before disapearing. Even though his Color-Timer is rapidly flashing, Gaia flies Zonnel back to his cave as Team Crow observes. Later, an exhausted Gamu is flying back to the Aerial Base, asking PAL to take over the controls. He is wondering about the device that was attached to Zonnel, and is examining it in his room on the Base when Atsuko and Georgie interrupt to celebrate Georgie's birthday. Meanwhile Fujimiya confronts Reiko about her comments about believing in the two Ultramen in a broadcast, and they discuss the merits of humanity before he walks off. Some time later, a ball of blue light goes into Aerial Base. Gamu is sleeping when the device starts blinking, and realizes there's an intruder aboard. Going to the Command Room, he encounters Tsutsumi, Atsuko, and Georgie, who tell him they can't enter the room. Just then, the Aerial Base Repulsor Lift engines start to malfunction, with Gamu running off. Ishimuro appears with Chiba and three guards, and Georgie and Atsuko propose to reset the main computer in the center of the ship while Tsutsumi works with Team Seagull to figure things out in other parts of the Base. As they all get to work, Fujimiya is inside the bridge declaring to further sabotage Aerial Base, when Gamu teleports in as Gaia. Fujimiya chides him for wanting to protect the threat to earth that is humanity, while Gamu/Gaia questions how and why Agul is helping him. Fujimiya transforms and they spar, Agul aiming for the computer equipment, but Gaia protects it. The members of XIG manage to get things aboard the Base functioning once more, and the guards burst in, just as Gaia opens a hole in the side of the Base. Chasing Agul, Gaia flies out and the hole closes just before one of the guards gets sucked out. Chiba wonders why the Ultraman were on the Base. Gaia is flying looking around for Agul, when suddenly Agul appears giant-size and punches him out of the air. Gamu briefly untransforms but barely manages to re-transform before he hits the ground. Gaia gets up with his Color-Timer already blinking, and is again overshadowed by a giant Agul, who shoots power flares at him. Evading them, Gaia runs into a nearby warehouse and tries to grow to giant-size as well, but is unable to due to too much power use. Agul shrinks to human-size and confronts Gaia again in the warehouse. They duel again, Agul trying to use his blade against Gaia, but this time Gaia is able to keep up with Agul, making his Color-Timer blink as he uses the Photon Edge to negate Agul's blade. Each then launches a beam-power attack at the other, and when that cancels out, use a kick attack. Red and Blue lights both flash out of the openings of the warehouse, and the two Ultras revert to human form. Managing to stand up, Fujimiya compliments Gamu on getting stronger, but tells him he will defeat Gamu for interfering in his plans. He staggers off, while Gamu asks out loud why the Earth gave Fujimiya Agul's power. Ultraman Gaia Episode 3: Gamu comes to the normal HQ center and starts the footage of his latest fight as Gaia, analyzing as it plays. He copies the move he calls the Photon Edge, when he is interrupted. Atsuko sees him doing it and thinks he is a child, which he denies. Gamu then thinks of a name for Ultraman, Gaia, and she tells him it's a childish name before she leaves. The news reporter team wants to know what XIG is - they know Gamu is a member of Alchemy Stars and is now part of XIG. Reiko is waiting for an elevator when a mysterious man tells her to keep reporting on Ultraman. Gamu asks the repairman for a toolbox, with Kajio asking why he is there. Gamu goes to his room and creates the device that will hold the light of Ultraman Gaia, which he names the Esplender. Just then an alarm warning sounds out and he goes to the Bridge to see what happened. Some distance away a weird object is flying through a desert, so Team Lightning goes with Peace Carry to investigate. Gamu is allowed to accompany them. Apatee's armor was too strong at first, but Team Lightning is able to bring it to the ground. However, it manages to make two of the aircraft crash. Unusual radio waves are causing trouble for communication so Gamu analyzes what the creature is broadcasting, and is surprised to see a video of Gaia doing the Photon Edge. Sneaking out of the Peace Carry, Gamu becomes Gaia to fight the metal monster. The two seem evenly matched, with Apatee even surviving the Photon Edge. Gaia tries the Quantum Stream with Apatee falling to the ground, but then it gets back up. Gaia is just about out of energy at this point with his Color-Timer blinking, and can't summon up another attack, until a ray hits Apatee, destroying it. Sonic Frontiers having Super Sonic boss fights really made this feel a lot like Sonic Unleashed, especially with Sonic Unleashed music. Sonic Unleashed has one of my favorite final bosses ever, so this scores even more points from me. My only real complaint is the process of making your way up Dark Gaia, as it's quite hard to navigate due to the invisible collision. Ultraman Gaia Episode 41: Meanwhile on Aerial Base, XIG musters its forces as another wormhole opens up in the sky. Gamu notes that the power signature is similar to that of Zoruim, and Ishimuro assigns Team Crow to investigate. Gamu offers to go along, and is soon flying with Team Crow. A beam of gold metal particles drifts down to earth, materializing into the robot, Σ-Zuigul. Team Crow attacks, and Σ-Zuigul retaliates by shooting a missile which tracks Leader Inagi of Team Crow. Gamu transforms into Gaia, and takes out the missile, saving a relieved Inagi. He then engages Σ-Zuigul, attacking it until the robot shoots a special beam which flashes around Gaia's fists. Gaia appears to destroy Σ-Zuigul with a power flare. Team Crow returns to the Base, and Gaia is about to revert back to Gamu, when he spots Fujimiya stumbling towards the ocean. Back as Gamu, he manages to stop Fujimiya from fully entering the ocean, which Fujimiya says was calling him. He then collapses, and Gamu helps him out of the water, taking him to a clinic. He discusses Fujimiya's condition with the professor, and while going to Fujimiya's room, notices weird black marks on the backs of both of his hands. He enters the room, and finds that Fujimiya has vanished. Gamu finds him near the ocean, and Fujimiya mentions about some of the events that transpired since he reappeared, like the underground missile. They discuss the mistakes humans make, and the power of Ultraman, with Fujimiya admitting that Agul's power has not returned to him. He knows his relying on Crisis was wrong, and wants to make up for his mistakes. Gamu encourages him to keep fighting, as Senuma and one of his men arrive to take custody of Fujimiya. Gamu defends Fujimiya, much to the other's shock. Just then, Σ-Zuigul recombines, and Gamu runs off to take care of him, asking Senuma to get Fujimiya out of harm's way. As Gamu runs towards Σ-Zuigul, the robot's sensors lock onto his form. Gamu tries to transform into Gaia, but then finds the Esplendor is covered with metal, as are the black marks on his hands. His arms are then forced out to the side, and a cross-shaped capsule forms around him. As he is struggling to escape his new prison, Σ-Zuigul draws the capsule into its chest. Team Lightning and Peace Carry arrive, and Tsutsumi orders the planes to start attacking the robot. Leader Kajio starts calling out attack plans, when Kitada interrupts him, directing everyone's attention to Gamu being held hostage. Ishimuro figures out that this was the reason why this particular weapon was used. With no other choice, Team Lightning breaks off the attack. Fujimiya, still being led away, senses Gamu's predicament, and breaks away from the two men. They try to follow him, but the wormhole opening stops them. Fujimiya runs toward Σ-Zuigul, who knocks him out with a laser attack. Kajio demands to attack, but Tsutsumi replies they might endanger Gamu. With the rest of the XIG team watching helplessly, and with no other interferences, Σ-Zuigul lifts off to return into the wormhole with its still-struggling hostage. Fujimiya mentions Gamu's name, and hearing him mentally, Gamu screams out Fujimiya's name as the robot nears the wormhole. Fujimiya has flashes of Gamu, Reiko, and Inamori calling out to him, with scenes of humanity, including Yuki(whom he had saved in episode 20), the boy who had drawn the picture of Gaia and Agul in the hospital, and a baby. Remembering words Gamu had told him earlier, he resolves to fight once more, and calls upon the earth to once more give him the power of Agul. Time seems to stop, and he scrambles to his feet as a huge wave approaches the shoreline, bearing with it the blue light of Agul. As the wave engulfs him, he transforms into Agul V2, and flies up to stop the robot from entering the wormhole. As they travel back down to earth, Agul tries to shield Gamu from too much damage as they crash back on the ground. He tries to punch Σ-Zuigul, but the robot presents its chest with Gamu inside, stopping Agul from attacking. It tries to lift off once more, but Agul kicks one of the flight-arms off, preventing its escape. Agul forms his blade and carves around the capsule. He draws the capsule out and plants it onto the ground, where Senuma and his associate rescue Gamu from it. They watch as Agul fights Σ-Zuigul, who is unable to keep up its powerful attacks due to Agul carving out the robot's chest, and it isn't long before Agul shoots a beam through Σ-Zuigul, destroying it. Agul reverts to Fujimiya, who watches Gamu take off in his jet. As Gamu notes his hands are free of Σ-Zuigul's marks, he is ordered back to XIG, and mentally addresses Fujimiya, each holding up their respective transform devices to show the lights within.
